FOR BEGINNERS
Whether or not you have ever watched a backgammon game, you almost certainly have seen a backgammon board. Most checkerboards are marked on the back with the twenty-four triangular "points" of a backgammon board.
The basic necessities for backgammon are: Two players. A backgammon board. Boards are obtainable in a wide range of materials, from a simple one costing a few dollars expensive ones made of inlaid ivory and wood. There are also extremely valuable antique boards and tables.
Thirty men or checkers, half of them in one color and in another. For convenience we will use the most common colors, white and black, throughout the website. A pair of dice. The game is more fun if you have four 'dice instead of two (so each player may have a pair); and a couple of dice cups. A doubling cube.
This is needed only in a gambling game or tournament. It is an oversized dice with the numbers 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, and 64 on the six faces, to help keep score.
